Salem-based ceramicist Jason Laney will have an Art Talk at the Bush Barn Art Center on the first Tuesday in November in which he will reflect on his background, work and process in creating wood-fired ceramics. He was first exposed to clay in college and returned to the medium in 2006 while working in the mortgage lending field. After the housing market crashed, he decided to switch to something he loved and took on ceramics full-time. Laney went on to work as a studio technician and mentored under the internationally-recognized ceramic artist and professor at Linfield College Nils Lou. Laney currently works as a full-time artist, teaches, and participates in community firings throughout Oregon. Laney’s work will be exhibited as part of The Nature of Things: Oregon Artists Explore the Tree in Art on display November 12-December 24 at the Bush Barn Art Center. A meeting of the SAA Gallery Guides will take place after the lecture. Those interested in becoming volunteer docents at the Bush Barn Art Center are welcome to attend the meeting.
