Event Details

Salem Reads is a community reads program that encourages a fondness for reading and the Library by inviting the entire city to read a common book. In February 2018 there will be a full month of programs to encourage discussions and activities around the themes of the book.

The Salem Reads Book Selection Committee has chosen Outcasts United by Warren St. John. Outcasts United is the real-life story of refugees seeking new lives set against the backdrop of a fading American town struggling to accommodate its new arrivals. Together, an inspiring group of refugees and a woman, who with tough love and fiery determination, changes an entire community for the better.

Copies of the book are currently available for checkout at the Salem Public Library and for sale at the Friends Book Store.  Check out the program guide and participate in one of our many 2018 events, including the author lecture on Tuesday, February 27th.
