Event Details

Scholar Brian Newbould has called Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 6 “the triumph and swansong of [Schubert’s] career.” Written late in Schubert’s short life, the work was not performed until after his death at age 31.

Festival Chorale Oregon will perform this “concert mass,” which was never intended to be used in a church setting. The work uses seemingly limitless melodic and harmonic invention as if Schubert intended to put his own torturous thoughts into the score. It embodies pure emotion captured in music and is a glorious tribute to his genius.

Founding artistic director Solveig Holmquist conducts the 100-voice choir and symphonic orchestra with guest soloists.
