Open Streets Salem is a free community event, open to everyone on Saturday, September 22nd from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The event, sponsored by the City of Salem, will be an opportunity for residents of Salem to safely explore active transportation options such as walking and biking, engage in fun activities, and build community, all while enjoying the CANDO, Grant, and Highland Neighborhoods. Ultimately, the event will transform our community and streets into vibrant, people-centered spaces where neighbors can connect with local organizations and each other.
By temporarily closing streets to automobile traffic and opening them to the public, OSS provides an atmosphere where neighbors can safely run, walk, roll, and play while interacting with a number of local businesses and activities along the route.
OSS strives to:
1) Promote a culture of healthy and active living
2) Foster civic pride by highlighting and engaging Salem’s neighborhoods
3) Connect neighbors to community, business, and City projects
The route will follow the proposed Maple/Winter Bikeway with four Activity Hubs (Salem Saturday Market, Grant Community School, Broadway Commons, and Highland Elementary School) along the route that will offer food, entertainment, and free activities for all ages.
