Theatre 33 Presents, SHORN, a play by Nora Douglass
“Shorn” plays July 28 and 29 @ 7pm, July 30 @2pm
Three characters. Three unreliable narrators. How do you live in a war zone? Lena, burnt and old from too much sun and toil, begrudgingly takes in Claire a young woman ostracized from her village for fraternizing with the enemy. Unrepentant, disruptor Claire soon has her eye on August, Lena’s handsome boy, sent out to work for the women who have all lost their men to the war. SHORN plays out in Lena’s arid fields, providing a constant reminder of the unnamed war which regularly passes through leaving behind only destruction and desolation. Secrets, half-truths and hidden motives abound and survival tactics are held long after their benefits have expired. As the two women vie for the soul of the young man, his secrets and ambitions are forced into relief and call for action. SHORN is a play about the boundaries of loyalty, about finding a place and about letting go.
