The Willamette University Music Department is hosting the Sixth Annual Invitational Vocal Jazz Festival Concert on the Smith Auditorium stage, Friday, April 28, 2017 at 7:30p. Suggested Donation for admission is $5 adults and $2 for students.
The Willamette Singers, Willamette’s renowned vocal jazz ensemble will be the hosts for the evening and have invited several area high schools to perform. The Southernaires from South Salem HS under the direction of Will McLean, Framework from Sprague HS under the direction of David Brown, Soundscape from West Salem HS under the direction of Kimberley McConnell, and the Pionaires from Sandy HS under the direction of Alec Chase will all be performing.
Headlining the evening performance will be Willamette alumn, Vijay Singh. Vijay is Professor of Music at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, professional vocalist, member of the award winning a cappella jazz quartet, Just 4 Kicks and 15-time ASCAP Composer Award Winner. Invited high school groups will receive clinics from Prof. Singh and from Dr. Wallace Long, Director of Choral Activities during the day on Friday to be following by the evening concert. Vijay will perform with each ensemble in the concert that will end with the final performance of the year by the Willamette Singers.
Willamette Singers members Maddy Goldman, Zach Duell, Joey Grimmell, Michael Watson, Evan Britton, and Collyn Johnson from the Salem-Keizer area will be performing in the concert.
